Guay commits to UdeM Tuesday, July 27th 2010
Guay is excited about having the chance to play with his hometown team.
Anyone who comes from Moncton and plays minor or elite hockey usually wants to skate with the Blue Eagles (someday)," he said. "I spoke with the coaching staff a few days back and I'm glad to have been given this opportunity. This team has a great tradition of winning and I want to be a part of that."
Guay, 21, had an impressive 39-3-3-0 record on his 2009-10 season with the Slammers in leading his team to a 45-3-3-1 record.
Although he suffered a knee injury early in the playoffs, which sidelined him for the remainder of the post-season, but is expected to make a full recovery.
"The team is a great legacy in my family as my father, Louis, has been part of the squad for many years and is again assistant coach with UdeM entering the new season. It's a dream come true for all of us. Entering2010-11 I want to have a strong camp and maybe win five or 10 games for them once the regular season starts. I want to make a difference on this squad."
Guay will be entering the university's Health Sciences program in the fall with hopes of attaining a degree in Biology.
He said he will miss Woodstock, but will never forget the great times he had in the Shiretown on, and off, the ice. "My players, the coaching staff, and the community were tremendous," he said. "It was an honour to be a Slammer and to win a banner here."
Moncton head coach Serge Bourgeois said Guay is a "fine addition to this team." "He had a great season in Woodstock last year and is a talented goalie in all facets of his game," he said. "This team has been in his blood since he was a kid and I know Andre will bring that competitive fire to our new season."
"Andre was a big part of our success last year and we will miss his hard work and dedication to the Slammers program. Andre was always a team first player always and we look forward to following his career at the CIS level. We wish Andre all the best and we look forward to placing Andre's picture on our alumni wall located in the Carleton Civc Centre.
