Slammers' McKinley to play for Nipissing

Friday, July 16th 2010

The Nipissing University Lakers hockey team got bigger and more experienced with the announcement that Lucas McKinley has accepted an offer to study at the university and play for the team.  The Nipissing Lakers are located in North Bay, ON and compete in the OUA East Division.
McKinley, a 6'4”, 210 pound left wing from Fredericton, New Brunswick, played for the Woodstock Slammers of the Maritime Junior Hockey League, notching 13 goals and 47 assists in 50 games.

“I am thrilled that Lucas has decided to study at Nipissing and play for the Lakers,” said Mike McParland, Lakers head coach. “His size and experience will be a great addition to the team.”

“I am very excited to join the Lakers,” said McKinley. “It's going to be fun playing in front of a loud and supportive home crowd.

"This is a great opportunity for Lucas and our program and the MHL to expose our players to the Nipissing University Lakers program.  We wish Lucas all the best and we look forward to placing his picture on our alumni wall located in the Carleton Civic Centre" commented Head Coach Jason Tatarnic.

The Nipissing Lakers hockey team had a very successful inaugural season. The Lakers were third in the country for fan attendance, ranked nationally for two consecutive weeks and made the playoffs.
